Being in touch with nature and the importance of a healthy lifestyle are two values that are always in focus for Villalia. Our villas are located in amazing settings on Lanzarote and La Toja, where nature abounds and where doing sports (making the most of your days of retreat or holidays) is a true pleasure.

As sponsors of the J70 Villalia Spring Series we show this commitment to our environment and to sports activities in general. This is a top-notch nautical even that takes place in the incomparable setting that is the Vigo estuary, featuring well-known personalities within the exciting world of competition sailing. There are just under two months to go until the 21/22 edition, and our brand has already been the proud sponsor of two previous editions.

A rainy weekend, but full of excitement

The final date has been set to the beginning of May (the last series will take place in Vigo between the 2nd and the 3rd that month) and the J70 Villalia Spring Series are red hot. This was made abundantly clear as the competition reached a peak of excitement and competitiveness during the second to last edition, which took place last weekend in Vigo.

Two days spent in the rain took nothing away from this spectacular Galician regatta, bringing together amateur sailors and famous figures from the world of sails in perfect harmony (among these personalities was Galician Olympic medallist Nico Rodríguez, who has declared himself a ‘lover and keen follower’ of this nautical event in Vigo).

The wind strength between 10 and 15 knots both days made crews enjoy themselves and award us with outstanding manoeuvres, turns and instructions on board. Top three consisted of new leaders who are starting to look strong at the top of the provisional general classification.

First position is still held by J70 Marnatura 1. This boat belongs to one of the big names in sailing, José Luis Freire, and is skippered by young Luís Bugallo Arriola, a crew member of Spanish Impulse during the last edition of Young America’s Cup. The great Gonzalo Arauju’s boat isn’t far behind in second place, followed by Luís Pérez Canal’s J70 Abril Verde

Galicia, our second home

Even if our official headquarters are located on the Canary Island Lanzarote, our team’s heart and soul can be traced back to Galicia. This means that Galicia is more than just a destination to us: it’s our second home.

Villalia, our brand of luxury villas, isn’t just a well-established brand in the Canarian tourism sector, our rental homes on the beautiful island La Toja are also known for their quality, comfort and wide range of services. Our large chalets, conventional houses, classic homes, and duplex options are located in privileged areas where relaxation and nature are prevailing factors. Imagine the perfect weekend: just a few metres from the beach and with the most exclusive services on offer. We have all this and more at Villalia, ready to turn your retreat into an unparalleled experience.

La Toja, a destination for those looking for tranquillity

Next to the O Grove peninsula, in the mouth of the river Arousa, the island La Toja (or Illa de Toxa) is a gem in the very heart of the Rías Baixas. It’s a quiet destination and perfect for those looking to disconnect and relax, but still want to be reasonably near a large city such as Vigo (a mere 50 minutes away, by car). Are you planning a visit to one of our villas in La Toja? Then please take note of the following must-see places:

  1. Balnearios de La Toja: Ortega y Gasset, the former king and queen of Spain, and Gabriel García Márquez are some of the many familiar faces who have visited the spa at La Toja to rest. The thermal waters here are known all over the world for their many health benefits.
  1. Capilla de San Caralampio or Capilla de las Conchas: A visit to this chapel, completely covered in thousands of Galician shells (painstakingly placed one by one on its façade) will leave you breathless – it’s a marvel to locals and visitors alike. Its construction dates back to the 12th century, but it wasn’t covered in this decorative finish until the 19th century.
  1. The Village of the Grobits and a route through the park: Can you imagine yourself spending an entire day in the village of the Hobbits, Hobbiton? It’s possible if you visit La Toja. The Village of the Grobits might be a playground, but it’s also a popular meeting place for fans of the Lord of the Rings, and all the little houses built here are very similar to those belonging to famous hobbits such as Frodo and his trusted friend Sam.
